Tiny house guide
Living
Living in a tiny house as a family: floor area, bedrooms, daily life
A family of four can live comfortably in 30 m² with two bedrooms, provided three points are dealt with: genuinely separate bedrooms, storage planned from the design stage, and usable outdoor space. For more than four people all year round, aim for 35 m² and ground-floor bedrooms.
Tiny house pros and cons, without the gloss
A tiny house offers a low entry budget, light taxation when it stays on wheels and a smaller footprint. On the other side: finding land remains the real obstacle, financing goes through a consumer loan, resale is less liquid and living there with several people takes organisation.
Tiny house lifespan: maintenance, guarantees and resale
A well-designed, well-maintained tiny house lasts as long as a timber-frame house. Its longevity depends on the wood and its protection against moisture, on ventilation and on trailer maintenance. After purchase, legal guarantees protect you; on resale, the procedures depend on its status, as a vehicle or a building.
Renting out your tiny house: holiday lets, rules and tax
You can rent out a tiny house, but it is not furnished tourist accommodation (meublé de tourisme): the French administration excludes unusual accommodation from that classification. You need land and an authorisation suited to hosting holidaymakers, insurance that covers letting, and you must declare the income as industrial and commercial profits (BIC).
Living in a tiny house all year round: rules, comfort and daily life
You can live in a tiny house all year round, provided you choose the right legal framework. Caravan status is intended for leisure; permanent housing falls under demountable dwellings, occupied for at least eight months a year, or an authorised building. You also need a house designed for winter: insulation, heating, ventilation.
