Putting a tiny house in your garden: rules and formalities
In France, a tiny house on wheels can stay in a garden for three months a year without any formality; beyond that, a prior declaration (déclaration préalable) is required. Set down permanently on the ground, it follows the thresholds for buildings: a prior declaration from 5 to 20 m², planning permission above that. The PLU (local urban plan) has the final say.
Tiny house for business: office, practice, salon, the rules
A tiny house can become an office, a practice or a salon. If you work alone, planning rules are enough: a prior declaration or planning permission depending on the floor area, and a compatible local urban plan (PLU). Once it receives clients, it becomes an establishment open to the public: accessibility and fire safety rules apply, with a specific authorisation.
Where can you put a tiny house? Possible land and the rules
In France, the simplest place to install a tiny house is on buildable land, in compliance with the PLU (local urban plan). On wheels, it can stay on private land for up to three months a year without any formalities. In agricultural or natural zones, permanent residence is only possible in areas designated by the PLU (STECAL).
